During a free consultation, you will discuss with Chris the following questions.
What is the motivation for you to write this? Chris shares your enthusiasm for great writing, so he wants to learn what makes you tick with your project.
Who is the intended audience? Writing for your reader is paramount.
What is your project timeline? One final deadline is awesome. For larger projects, Chris also wants to know if providing you work in segments is acceptable. We will negotiate mini-deadlines to ensure he edits your work in a timely manner.
Do you seek proofreading or copy editing? We will confirm editing services for your project and rates noted below.
Copy editing or proofreading: What is the difference?
Copy editing: a thorough review for style, character/subject continuity, originality, and accuracy
Proofreading: a grammatical review, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and voice. Proofreading occurs after a more thorough copy editing process.
Editing rates
According to the Editorial Freelancers Association, Chris charges the following competitive editing rates. Word count is based on the complete first draft you provide Chris to edit.
Copy editing*
Fiction: $0.023 per word
Nonfiction: $0.03 per word
Academic-Social Sciences: $0.04 per word
Proofreading*
Fiction: $0.02 per word
Nonfiction: $0.023 per word
Academic-Social Sciences: $0.03 per word
*Chris charges $50 minimum per editing project.
